South Rains Special Utility District dates back to the early 1970's when a group of concerned citizens got together to do something about supplying fresh drinking water to a rural area of Rains County outside of Emory. Working closely with the USDA, a plan was put in place to build a water supply for the rural area we now serve. We currently supply water to about 25% of the residents of the county. Our water, at this time, mostly comes from Lake Tawakoni and is purchased from the City of Emory. We also purchase ground water from Bright Star-Salem Special Utilility District that is supplied to our customers on the very east side of our territory. Water from both sources is tested daily, and also sent to on outside laboratory once each month for more technical testing. Should there be a problem with the water you will be notified promptly along with instructions to clear the problem. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our office at 903-473-2122.
